ALABAMA BUILDING INDUSTRY HALL OF FAME

NOMINATION INFORMATION  (September 16, 2008)

NOMINEE:                            Jimmy Jones

1.         Describe the positive and/or significant contributions your nominee has made to the Alabama Building Industry.

Jimmy has been involved in the building industry for nineteen years, primarily in masonry sales.  He has been a member of the H/MCBA since 1989.  Jimmy was successful in acquiring all the brick at no charge for the local Association Office Building during its construction in the late 1990’s; he has also been instrumental in acquiring brick for many years for the local Showcase Home project which is a major non-dues revenue producer for the HMCBA.  Jimmy actively contacts new members and encourages them to become involved in the association, inviting them to monthly meetings, and answering questions about their membership.

Actively working on the Association’s annual ABPAC golf tournament, Jimmy was instrumental in negotiating terms for the tournaments that have resulted in the Association being able to meet its ABPAC goals annually.

While serving as HBAA Area Vice President from 2003 through 2006, Jimmy traveled to Blount County, Marshall County, Jackson County, and DeKalb County attending local association meetings and encouraging associates to become involved within their association and forming Associate Councils.  Jimmy was instrumental in getting Marshall County’s Associate Council established.

Membership has been very important in Jimmy’s involvement at both the local and state level which is apparent by the fact he is a Royal Spike club member (184 spike credits).   He has served on the local membership committee for many years and served as its Chairperson.  The Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association has made great strides in membership due to his involvement and leadership.

He was appointed by the State Executive Committee to serve as the Membership Co-chair for three years (2005, 2006 & 2007).  He has represented HBAA at National Membership Conferences and has been influential in the state’s successful membership program.

 4.         What is the impact and success of projects and/or programs the nominee has been responsible for?

Membership has grown substantially in the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association due to Jimmy’s involvement in the Membership Committee.  He is quick to explain the benefits to new members and encourage builders and subcontractors to join the Association when he is on the job sites.  As an Ambassador, he diligently makes his contact calls and reports back to the Membership Services Coordinator results of the calls.  He has been doing this for 16 years!

Actively working on the Association’s annual ABPAC golf tournament, Jimmy was instrumental in negotiating terms for the tournaments that has resulted in the association attaining its annual goals.

5.         In summary, why do you believe your nominee should be inducted into the Alabama Building Industry (ABI) Hall of Fame?

From the time Jimmy Jones first became involved in the builders association, he has taken an active role.  His positive attitude and helpfulness has not only had a positive impact on the organization but also with his peers.  He is widely respected both locally and on the state level and is always willing to lend a helping hand to any fellow member or association that needs help.  He is tireless in his support and gives many hours personally of his time - time which surely has been sacrificed from his family and his business.

Jimmy Jones must be ranked among one of the most dedicated, involved, supportive and dependable members of the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association and Home Builders Association of Alabama.   He strongly believes that membership is the lifeblood of the association and is the association’s number one advocate.   You would think that after serving as an Ambassador for 16 years, he would become complacent; however, he always manages to instill new life and enthusiasm which is so badly needed for a membership program to be successful.  He ranks as the 13th largest spike in the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association with 184 spike credits (Royal Spike level) which demonstrates his commitment to the building industry.   On the state level, he ranks as #132 out of 624 Life Spikes!

The Board of Directors and members of the Huntsville/Madison County Builders Association are proud to present Jimmy Jones as a nominee for induction into the Alabama Building Industry Housing Hall of Fame.  Jimmy Jones personifies all of the qualities we believe are necessary to be awarded this honor – dedication & commitment for a long period of time, service to the local and state associations, honesty, integrity, positive attitude, and reputation above reproach.
